Department of Minorities Welfare, Government of India has announced the Merit Cum Means Based scholarship to minority students for the year 2015 - 16. Under the Prime Minister's new 15 point programme, this scheme was launched by the Ministry of Minority Affairs for the development of education among the minority students. This scheme is applicable for the students pursuing Degree or Postgraduate level profession and Technical courses in Government, Aided, Recognised private institutions.
The application for Merit Cum Means Based Scholarship to minority students 2015 - 16 are available at the official website www.scholarships.gov.in. The applications are invited by the Government of Tamil Nadu, from the students belonging to minority such as Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Parsi (Zoroastrians) and Jains. The Department of Minorities Welfare has scheduled the time limit for the students to apply for Merit Cum Means Based Scholarships 2015 - 16. Prime minister scholarship Eligibility Criteria and general instructions
The students applying for the Merit Cum Means Based scholarships 2015 - 16 should fulfill all the eligibility criteria mentioned below. This is applicable for both the fresh and renewable scholarships for the students which should be followed accordingly. Fresh Scholarship
- The students who get admission in professional courses on the basis of with or without facing competitive examinations are eligible for the scholarships.
- The student should posses minimum of 50% of marks or its equivalent grade in the previous examinations.
- The annual Income of the parents/guardian should not exceed the amount of Rs. 2 Lakhs.
Renewal scholarship
- All the above mentioned eligibility should be fulfilled by the renewal scholarship candidates to avail the scholarship.
- The student should not have any arrears or fail marks in the previous examinations and should be successful in completion of course.
General Instructions
- The students obtaining the Merit cum means based scholarships will not be allowed to receive any other scholarships from other boards.
- The Merit Cum Means Based Scholarship will not be provided for more than two students in a family.
- The scholarships are reserved 30% for women candidates, if there is any shortage in numbers of women candidates, male candidates will be selected.
- Only online mode application is accepted.
- The students should enter bank account and IFS code correctly. If any mistakes done in that part the students will not receive the scholarships.

- Filled - in Online Application form (Fresh or Renewal) with passport size photograph.
- The attested copy of consolidated marksheet should be provided for candidates availing fresh scholarship. For renewal scholarship, the previous year marksheet is required.
- Proof of religion, i.e, Community certificate or any other mode of certificates should be provided for the proof of religion.
- Income certificate, the annual income should be less than Rs. 2.5 lakhs obtained from the revenue authority of the state.
- The Fee receipts of Institution fee such as Tuition, Examination, library and other non refundable fee should be submitted as proof of payment. The hostel students should submit hostel fee receipt along with it.
- Copy of Bank Pass Book and IFS code of the student bank details.
Rate of Scholarship
- Full course fee will be given to the syudents studying in the institutions listed by Ministry of Minority Affairs.
- For other institutions, Course fee of Rs. 20000 and maintenance allowance of Rs. 10000 for hosteler at 1000 per month and 5000 per month for day scholar at Rs. 500 per month of maximum 10 months for each and every academic Year.
